We are experiencing a process of intense globalization that results in a great social, political and economic transformation and impacts on personal relationships and commercial transactions. Increasingly, problems require more knowledge and international cooperation in an environment of global competitiveness. It is critical that people, leaders and entrepreneurs are educated for global awareness and action. Fostering this awareness is the purpose of the Global Citizenship Institute.

A global citizen is a person aware of a larger world, who cultivates respect for others and the world, understands how it works and seeks social justice, the reduction of inequalities, sustainability and global references to improve the place. He is creative, works well in groups and thinks critically about local and global problems and what he can do to solve them. It is ethical and aims to positively impact society with actions and decisions. He is fully aware of the concepts of human rights, diversity, conflict resolution, social justice and sustainable development.

Education for global citizenship is essential to create a world with peace and justice, without poverty, much less inequality, without hunger, where everyone has access to good health services, sanitation, clean water and use renewable sources of energy. In a sustainable world, where the environment is respected, society is educated and the economy is thriving. These are the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals to promote sustainable global well-being.

Schools increasingly need to prepare their students for an interconnected world where they will live and work with people from different cultures. A global citizenship program considers the best global references. It is appropriate for any age, applied across the curriculum and across all subjects. Teaching is based on cases, articles, interviews, visits to museums, companies and other places that can provide real-world learning. It is guided by reflections that can be organized into modules: 1. Citizen awareness, 2. Educational models and systems, 3. Leadership and entrepreneurship. It should encourage citizens to act to improve their own neighborhood, workplace and school, with a global vision.
